Position Function : The Special Assets Associate will be responsible for assisting Special Asset Officer(s) and Home Loan Special Credits Officer(s), with a goal to minimize loan losses and maintain compliance with bank and regulatory requirements. A higher level Associate will also be responsible for the direct management of a small portfolio of criticized loans. Gathers and evaluates financial statements and other information through internal and external sources to get the best read on the strengths, weaknesses, and potential risks involved with each loan request. Reviews and analyzes necessary information to develop strategy for improving risk rating, reducing principal balance, ensuring adequate collateral coverage and limiting loan losses. Documents strategy and supporting rationale in a clear and concise written manner using the banks credit approval forms and underwriting formats. Monitors portfolio to ensure compliance with financial reporting and loan covenants. Work independently and as a team member to attain department and corporate goals. Performs all duties and interacts with internal and external customers in a manner aligned with the Company Core Values of Teamwork, Integrity and Exceptional Service (TIES).

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Bachelors Degree from an accredited 4 year University in Finance or Accounting

Experience Special Assets Associate I: 2+ years multi-field lending or equivalent experience. Special Assets Associate II: 3+ years multi-field lending or equivalent experience. Special Assets Associate III: 4+ years multi-field lending or equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Possess strong understanding and experience in loan underwriting, structuring, approval and documentation of commercial loans. Possess a strong understanding of business and other economic issues to logically assess and analyze the potential risks of problem credits so as to resolve them in an efficient and professional manner. Possess excellent communication (verbal, written and listening) and organizational skills. Possess good interpersonal skills and problem solving skills in order to work with loan officers, support staff and/or difficult borrowers to resolve issues and problems. Proficient in the use of the PC and MS Office applications. Expert in utilizing Excel spreadsheets for financial analysis and reporting.

Physical Requirements& Working Conditions Must be able to move and lift items up to 20lbs, and perform other light physical work. Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including phone, personal computer, copier, etc. Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with all internal and external customers. Must also be able to hear sufficiently to engage in daily discussions and interactions. Must be able to read and understand bank-related documents. Must be able to work in a conventional office setting, involving sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods of time. Must also be able to adapt to different work environments as needed to perform the job.
